I wish I could be your lens
so I could see the world
as you see it
Watch the differences
of cultures amaze
feel what living outside
of this world
feels like

I wish I could be your lens
so I can wear the nappy hair
while raising my fist
I wish I could sit in the cell
fighting for my own rights
fearless
pregnant
with a star..of a son
growing
in my belly

I wish I could be your lens
feel what walking on the red carpet
as a movie star
was like
Wish I could bask in
a pool of diamonds and pearls
living a lavish life
always respected as the Queen.
I wonder what it's like
being married that many times
and still holding a sense of dignity
in my name

I wish I could be your lens
so I could experience college
being in the dorms
contemplating on pledging
for a particular sorority


I wish I could be your lens
to hear the silent cries
in those bunks
of men and women
missing home
missing their loved ones
'cause sometimes
even I forget
during my days
and nights
of being consumed
of how important
they are

I wish I could be your lens
so I can understand the love shared
between a father and his child
so much that it would fill this empty void
that seems to follow me
wherever I go

I wish I could be your lens
so I could feel the foreign rays
dance upon my americanized soul
I can't imagine
what it's like
watching a country
suffer..as you did
but I would love to be your lens
just to be in constant reminder
of my blessings
Wish I could watch beauty put on a show
in the mountains of Africa
I wish I could taste the fog in London
sip from China's finest china....in China
I wish I could see the breathtaking art
draped upon the beaches of Greece
from my villa in the hills
Wish I could sleep in Hawaii
to feel the luxury
of it's sand
in my thoughts

I wish I could be your lens
as a reminder
that after all I've seen
through your eyes
I realize
that there's really nothing
wrong
with
my view
